Rapunzel Unbound-Archer School for Girls
On the edge of womanhood, each “Rapunzel” finds herself longing to explore outside her tower, sensing there is something more to her world. She must find the strength within herself to journey outside into the unknown. We spent several weeks in a journaling+movement process, each dancer relating their experiences of “growing up” and realizing there was more to their world but being nervous to approach it. We talked a lot about expectations they felt as upcoming seniors, choosing colleges, and leaving their “tower” they were very comfortable with. The final work of Rapunzel Unbound featured chandelier and silks, and premiered February 2020 at The Broad Stage in Santa Monica.
